The process encouraged a critical reflection on gender, making the personal public, and examining interrelations within diverse communities. It emerges from an ongoing reflection on words: what they carry, what they shape, and what they transform us into. It considers the language we absorb, the language we dismantle, and the language we choose to share. Central to this exploration are the writings of Gloria Anzaldúa, particularly her call to deconstruct the whore–virgin dichotomy as a necessary step in resisting patriarchal structures. Through embroidery on lace, the piece translates this linguistic and political reflection into a tactile, intimate gesture, where language becomes material and resistance takes on a delicate yet deliberate form. These messages, often aggressive, misogynistic, or absurd, once hidden behind the veil of digital anonymity, are now brought into the physical world, exposed and scrutinized. The vases act as a platform, a stage for critique: they transform these private digital fragments into tangible forms that highlight the cruelty and casual misogyny embedded in the online dating culture. With a comedic, at times absurd tone, the project both entertains and unsettles, drawing attention to a social reality often ignored. Each vase functions as a subtle monument to digital miscommunication, power imbalances, and socially normalized aggression, turning ephemeral, consequence-free messages into objects that confront, provoke, and invite reflection. By materializing these moments, the project exposes the tension between anonymity and accountability, humor and critique, making visible a problem that is often dismissed or overlooked. The lack of choice, caused by these social constructs and gender inequality, had led many women to become curanderas as an act of survival. One of the points of analysis focused on gender stereotypes, motherhood, and the automatic feminization of care work as a complex narrative shaped by inequality and the absence of choice. This also involved developing a broader understanding of how these power structures, specifically machismo, operated, while maintaining a critical distance from prevailing notions of Latin masculinities, in order to open up possibilities for their critical re-examination, drawing on works such as Borderlands/La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldúa. https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/R2768284141194287366904870292326/kalidadbaka.jpg A fundamental part of the work is the herbarium. It contains illustrations of the medicinal plants that were taught and presented to me by the women. There are 15 illustrations in total, created with watercolor and pencil on paper. De transitar y entender una crisis. Y también de abrazar una crisis, aveces con cautela y muchas veces muy fuerte. Lo que empezó en una playa de Esmeraldas en Ecuador, mientras recogía conchas y piedras de la arena mojada con lágrimas en los ojos, se convirtió en un archivo de pensamientos, de listas, de deseos, de sentimientos. Algunos recopilados en este espacio, otros en papelitos que pierdo en la lavadora, y otros en traducciones visuales como mi propia forma de entender y procesar una identidad en constante crisis. Diary of a Discreet Crisis began as an exploration of an identity in flux—an attempt to navigate, understand, and even embrace personal crisis. What started on a beach in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, collecting shells and stones from the wet sand with tears in my eyes, evolved into an archive of thoughts, lists, desires, and emotions.
